(KNSI) – If you see a large police presence at St. Cloud Apollo High School on Wednesday, don’t be alarmed. It’s only a drill.
A mock crash will run from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the school. According to Lieutenant Lucas Dingmann, it’s part of an exercise aimed at highlighting the dangers of impaired and distracted driving while providing hands-on training for emergency responders.
Students and staff may observe simulated emergency response efforts throughout the morning.
Participating agencies include the St. Cloud Police Department, St. Cloud Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, CentraCare Ambulance, Life Link III, St. Cloud Public Works, Daniel Funeral Home and Collins Brothers Towing.
Drivers and neighbors near the school should expect an increased presence of emergency vehicles during the two-hour window. Officials stress that the activity is only a training exercise and there is no cause for concern.
St. Cloud Police Officer Rachael Johnson said last year that mock crashes like this one are typically held in the spring, ahead of prom and graduation, when students are more likely to be out at parties and celebrations.
Last year’s mock crash was held at Tech High School.
