(KNSI) — The City of Sartell is inviting the public to learn about and weigh in on the future of its Mill District at an open house on May 11th.
The Mill District is the former site of the Verso Paper Mill along the Mississippi River. There was a deadly explosion at the paper mill in May of 2012, which was permanently closed in August of that year.
The buildings were demolished in 2013, and the area has been vacant ever since. In 2023, the City bought the property and began planning for its future.
The site consultant, IAG Commercial, presented the City Council with final redevelopment recommendations. City staff and owner representatives will be at the open house to show visuals, answer questions and hear from the public.
The open house runs from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Sartell City Hall with a drop-in format, so residents can come and go at their convenience.
