(KNSI) – Minnesota’s stream trout fishing season opens Saturday with the DNR reporting quality opportunities across all six of the state’s trout fishing regions.
Brook trout and splake fishing on Lake Superior and its tributaries also opens on the 11th.
Central Minnesota anglers have several options close to home. Stearns County is home to designated trout streams including Luxemburg Creek near St. Augusta, Willow Creek near Kimball, Cold Spring Creek and Smarts Creek. The DNR stocks catchable brown trout in Willow Creek annually. There are roughly 10 trout streams across Stearns, Benton and Sherburne counties combined.
Statewide, Minnesota has roughly 3,800 miles of designated trout streams. The DNR’s StreamFinder tool lets anglers look up stream descriptions, species lists, regulations and access points.
Anglers ages 18 to 64 fishing designated trout waters need a trout stamp validation on top of their standard angling license. That stamp is also required to possess any trout or salmon caught on Minnesota waters.
Full-season details are available on the DNR’s website.
