(KNSI) – A six-mile stretch of County Road 157 between Albany and Freeport will close to traffic starting Monday, April 13th, with construction expected to last through October.
The project involves a full reconstruction of the road from Albany’s west limits to 7th Avenue Northeast in Freeport. Crews will remove the old railroad trestle bridge over County Road 157, replace culverts, rebuild and pave the roadway, and establish turf along the corridor. When the work is finished, the road will include six-foot paved shoulders. Removing the trestle bridge will allow the county to fix longstanding drainage problems and widen the road through that section.
Interstate 94 will serve as the posted detour during construction. The county is urging motorists to find alternate routes to avoid delays. All dates and timelines are weather-dependent.
The county’s share of the project is just over $1.46 million, funded through local-option sales tax dollars. Albany’s share is roughly $1.33 million. The city also secured a $285,000 Active Transportation grant to extend sidewalks as part of the project.
