(KNSI) – Stearns County’s Kraemer Lake-Wildwood County Park is getting a significant upgrade, and construction crews are already on the ground.

Visitors should be aware that portions of the trail system on the east side of the park, near the sugar shack, are closed during active construction. The closures are expected to remain in effect through June 2026. Other areas of the park remain open.

The project includes six major improvements: an updated entrance road, updated trails, a new parking lot, a new fishing pier, a new picnic shelter, and a new restroom. Together these upgrades will make the park more accessible and comfortable for the whole community.

Construction is expected to have the most impact during the spring season.

When the work is complete, the full trail network will reopen for hiking, biking, and leashed dog walking in warmer months, and cross-country skiing and fat-tire biking in winter.

County officials say the park is a special place for good reason. Half of its 265 acres has been identified by the Minnesota County Biological Survey as a significant remnant natural community, with trees more than 300 years old.
