(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning from noon to 7:00 p.m. Saturday as low humidity and high winds combine to create conditions ripe for wildfires.
Forecasters say temps will warm into the upper 50s and low 60s, humidity values will dip below 25%, and southwesterly winds will gust up to 45 miles an hour. Any fires that start have the potential to spread quickly. Dry vegetation from a lack of spring green-up is adding to the critical fire weather conditions. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
The fire risk for the area is considered significant, with extreme fire weather conditions across southwestern Minnesota.
