(KNSI) – Saint John’s Abbey and University will open its campus to the public on Saturday for its annual Maple Syrup Festival.

Described as a hands-on celebration of one of nature’s most familiar springtime traditions, the festival runs from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Saint John’s Abbey Arboretum in Collegeville. Guests can take part in sap collection, syrup cooking and making hot maple syrup sundaes. The event is entirely outdoors; organizers encourage visitors to dress for the weather and wear boots or shoes that can get dirty.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-17, and free for children three and under and College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University students. Discounts are available for Outdoor U members. Walk-ins are welcome, and tickets can also be purchased online in advance by clicking here.

The festival has been a campus tradition for over a decade. Saint John’s has partnered with the Abbey Arboretum to tap its maple trees since 1942. The university manages more than 2,600 acres of land used for both academic and recreational purposes.
