(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Local Education & Activities Foundation, known as LEAF, has reached a major fundraising milestone, collecting $100,000 to cover the cost of middle school activities for all students in St. Cloud Area School District 742.

According to a news release, 60 donors contributed to the Middle School Activity Fee Elimination Fund, including businesses, civic organizations, and individual community members. The effort means all sixth through eighth grade students can participate in athletics and activities at no cost through the 2026-27 school year.

District 742 Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools Dr. Jason Harris says eliminating the fees is about more than saving families money. “Providing all middle school activities free for two years is essential for fostering healthy development in students. This ensures every child has the opportunity to engage, learn, and build connections without financial barriers, ultimately enriching our school community and promoting overall well-being.”

LEAF says the impact is already showing up in participation numbers, with middle school athletics and activities seeing growth each season compared to last year.

One District 742 family said the fund has been a “blessing,” thanking both LEAF and the donors who made it possible.
