(KNSI) — A Motley man is facing felony first and second-degree assault charges after allegedly stabbing a 53-year-old man several times on Sunday morning.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Morrison County, around 7:15, a person called 911 to report the stabbing at a home near Motley. First responders found 53-year-old Douglas Alan Denio in a back bedroom and had suffered numerous stab wounds to his upper chest and face. He was rushed to CentraCare-St. Cloud Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators 23-year-old Christian Ray Denio stabbed Douglas and then fled the scene. Police say they found him at a nearby gas station, where he was arrested.

Court documents say Denio learned Douglas had sexually assaulted his mother several years ago and believes nothing was done about it. He told police he had been drinking and fell asleep, but woke up angry about what he had been told so he grabbed a knife and proceeded to cut and stab Douglas before family members intervened.

He is due back in court on Monday.
