(KNSI) – Residents still have a chance to get their two cents in on potential upgrades to Quarry Park and Nature Preserve as Stearns County updates its master plan for the popular park.
Those who took the first survey can take it again between now and March 25th. The first survey drew more than 700 responses and showed the main reasons people visit the park are to hike, view nature, swim, sightsee, take pictures, walk their dogs, bike ride, snowshoe, fish, and rock climb.
The county is looking at adding more mountain bike trails, a visitor center, accessibility improvements, improvements to the natural surroundings, and park programming and tourism, along with other potential improvements. Renderings have been posted online for those who were unable to attend the open house held on Wednesday.
The parks department says staff and commissioners have spent the past several months working with planning consultants to develop draft recommendations for a new master plan, the first update to the park’s long-range plan since 1995.
The master plan will guide park investments over the next 10 to 20 years. Quarry Park and Nature Preserve is the largest county park, spanning more than 750 acres.
