(KNSI) – Governor Tim Walz has activated the Minnesota National Guard ahead of this weekend’s winter storm.
The peacetime emergency declaration authorizes the Guard to provide personnel, equipment, facilities, and resources for storm operations.
The National Weather Service is forecasting heavy snow and strong winds beginning Saturday evening, with conditions potentially deteriorating to blizzard levels in some areas. Officials warn travel could become nearly impossible in parts of the state, and widespread power outages are possible.
The executive order takes effect immediately and expires March 19th, or when emergency conditions subside.
