(KNSI) — The Stearns County Parks Department is now accepting applications for seasonal positions.

Officials say that if someone is looking for a summer job with flexible hours in the great outdoors, there are a number of spots available. A press release from the county says the gigs are perfect for a college student looking to earn money, a retiree wanting to stay active in summer, or someone looking to get into the workforce.

A seasonal gatekeeper is needed to greet visitors, sell parking permits, handle cash and record-keeping, and assist with events at county park entrances. Experience handling money or selling admission passes is preferred. Parks are open seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and hours will coincide.

There is an opening for a seasonal caretaker to maintain grounds and facilities at Quarry Park and Nature Preserve, patrolstrails, enforce park rules, and respond to emergencies. Availability for weekends, holidays, and late afternoons is required. Experience with grounds maintenance, utility vehicles, and rule enforcement is preferred. Shifts run seven days a week from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., May through August, with weekend shifts in September.

The department also needs a seasonal caretaker crew leader. That position is responsible for overseeing, leading and participating in the activities of the seasonal caretaker employees, coordinating daily work assignments, inspecting facilities and trails, performing minor maintenance, and responding to emergencies. Applicants must have at least one season of experience in park operations, landscaping, grounds maintenance, or a similar field. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. The schedule is four 10-hour shifts Thursday through Sunday, with every third weekend off, May through Labor Day.

They are also looking for a seasonal parks mainenance aid. That person performs general maintenance and improvement work across county park facilities, including mowing, landscaping, minor construction, custodial duties, and grounds keeping. Experience with power equipment, utility vehicles, and grounds maintenance is preferred. Shifts run Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Two positions run from May through August; one runs from April through September.

Applicants must be at least 18 by May 1st. Some positions require a valid Minnesota driver’s license.
