(KNSI) – St. Cloud city leaders are putting the finishing touches on a plan that will guide how the city spends money on major public projects from 2027 through 2032.

A second public hearing on the five-year Capital Improvements Program, or CIP, will take place at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday inside city hall. It’s a blueprint that guides major public investments across the city. It is a chance for residents to tell the city planners what’s important to them to get worked on.

Community Development Director Matt Glaesman says it’s a tool that benefits both government and residents. “This is a document that really impacts people’s lives, whether it’s their business or their home,” he said.

The plan covers a wide range of infrastructure categories. On the roads side, the city is planning annual street improvement projects, along with neighborhood revitalization work in several areas of the city and a number of larger road reconstruction projects. Water and sewer projects are also prominent in the plan, including annual lead service line replacements, water tower and reservoir rehabilitation work, and upgrades to the city’s wastewater treatment facility.

Parks and public buildings round out the plan. New community and neighborhood park construction is slated across multiple years, along with a Phase One riverwalk project. For public buildings, the plan includes maintenance work at the River’s Edge Convention Center and a new Fire Station Seven in the northeast St. Cloud annexation area.

To qualify for the CIP, a project must cost more than $250,000, have a useful life of at least five years, and add to the value or capacity of city infrastructure.

Residents who want to weigh in can contact the city’s planning department or attend an upcoming Planning Commission meeting.
