(KNSI) — Stearns County Parks is inviting the public to weigh in on the future of Quarry Park and Nature Preserve at an open house next month.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11th, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Stearns County License Service Center, 3301 County Road 138 in Waite Park.
The parks department says staff and commissioners have spent the past several months working with planning consultants to develop draft recommendations for a new master plan, the first update to the park’s long-range plan since 1995. Public feedback was collected through an online survey and interactive mapping application that ran from late December through mid-February, with additional input gathered in January.
Draft recommendations will be on display at the open house, covering topics such as mountain bike trail expansion, a potential new visitor center, hiking trails, accessibility improvements, natural resources initiatives, and park programming and tourism.
Staff and commissioners will be there to discuss ideas and gather additional feedback. Input collected at the event and through a companion online survey will be used to shape the final master plan, which will guide park investments over the next ten to 20 years.
