(KNSI) – Residents across the St. Cloud area should plan ahead for Presidents’ Day on Monday, as government offices and many public services will be closed for the federal holiday.
All local government offices will be shut down for the day, including Stearns County, Benton County, Sherburne County, and the City of St. Cloud administrative offices. The Whitney Senior Center will also be closed.
Federal offices, U.S. Postal Service locations, banks, and stock markets will observe the holiday closure.
Public schools throughout the region will not be in session, and some trash and recycling services may be affected—residents should check with their local service providers for specific schedules.
The Great River Regional Library will be closed on Monday as well.
Despite the government closures, most businesses will operate as usual. Retail stores, shopping malls, and supermarkets plan to maintain regular hours, and restaurants and bars across the area will remain open for dining. Many private businesses and professional services will also be available, though individual hours may vary.
Presidents’ Day, observed annually on the third Monday of February, honors all U.S. presidents, particularly George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The holiday was established in 1879 to celebrate Washington’s birthday and was later expanded to include all presidents.
Residents with urgent needs should plan accordingly for the holiday closures, and those uncertain about specific business hours are encouraged to call ahead before visiting.
