(KNSI) – More than 30 years after doling out one of the first ROCORI Dollars for Scholars scholarships, a full-circle milestone was hit this year.

When Heidi Reitmeier received her financial assistance from the community in 1995, she never imagined it would also start a family legacy. Today, Reitmeier serves as the organization’s scholarship database manager, helping students navigate the same opportunity that once opened doors for her.
This spring, her daughter Allie is among the ROCORI seniors applying for scholarships, a milestone that highlights the lasting impact of community investment in education. For Allie, applying for the scholarship carries added significance beyond financial support. “It feels like a tradition of community pride,” she said. “Knowing my mom was one of the first students helped by this program makes applying even more meaningful. It reminds me that people here want us to succeed and come back to make a difference.”
This year, ROCORI Dollars for Scholars plans to distribute more than 120 scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing college, technical training, or other post-secondary education. All ROCORI seniors are encouraged to apply for scholarships online. The application is designed to match students with multiple scholarship opportunities.
The organization relies entirely on community donations to fund its scholarships. To help keep the legacy alive, click here.
