(KNSI) — Four St. Cloud area high school seniors have been named Triple A award winners by the Minnesota State High School League.
The Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award, commonly known as the Triple A Award, honors high school seniors throughout the state who have a 3.0 or higher grade-point average and participate in league-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.
Lucy Herringlake and Nathan Lam from Apollo High School, along with Lauren Gazdzik and Marcus Wade from Tech High School, received the honor. Gazdzik will also represent Section 8AA as a finalist for a four-year, $1,000 scholarship at a celebration banquet in March.
The recipients went through a strict selection process involving member schools of the Minnesota State High School League, the league’s administrative regions and a special committee of educators, business leaders and participants from both the fine arts and athletic communities.
Apollo Activities Director Karl Heine praised the school’s recipients for their leadership and commitment. He said Herringlake and Lam lead by example, “balancing academics, athletics and the arts while consistently showing up whether competing, playing in the pep band or volunteering at school events.”
Tech High School Activities Director Hillary Johnson said the Triple A Award “celebrates the all-around student, and that Gazdzik and Wade have earned the recognition through their excellence in academics, activities and athletics.”
