(KNSI) – The Wirth Center for the Performing Arts has cleared its last hurdle and will begin transforming the historic Daniel Building into a community art center.
The organization closed the deal on the building on Wednesday afternoon. The move from the Mary Center will allow the organization to expand its music, dance, and other arts programming. The nonprofit plans to move into the building before summer while renovations and fundraising continue. Work includes mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC upgrades and the construction of new dance studios.
The Wirth Center has raised $1.68 million toward its $3 million Space to Create capital campaign. A public fundraising event will be held on April 11th.
The new space will house the Wirth Center alongside other arts organizations, including nonprofit B-Side Independent Music Café.
“This project is about creating accessible space where students, artists, and the community can grow together,” said James Newman, Executive Director of the Wirth Center for the Performing Arts. “It allows us to better support our teachers and students while expanding meaningful arts experiences that strengthen the community as a whole.”
