(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University students can now earn industry-recognized technology credentials at no cost through a new partnership between Minnesota State, Google and a national higher education organization.

Minnesota is the first state system in the nation to launch this type of comprehensive collaboration. The initiative is part of the Microcredentials Community of Practice, an element of the Google AI for Education Accelerator, which works with 11 higher education systems nationwide.

St. Cloud State is among nine Minnesota State institutions offering Google Career Certificates in fields including cybersecurity, data analytics and IT support. The program also provides training in artificial intelligence fundamentals and responsible AI usage.
More than 350 students across the Minnesota State system completed at least one certificate during the program’s first year. The credentials typically cost hundreds of dollars and require months of study when purchased independently.

Students at St. Cloud State can pursue the certificates as standalone credentials or integrate them into their existing degree programs, allowing both traditional students and working professionals to participate.

Other participating institutions include Alexandria Technical and Community College, Metropolitan State University, Minneapolis College, Minnesota State University, Mankato, North Hennepin Community College, Pine Technical and Community College, Rochester Community and Technical College and Winona State University.

Through the National Association of Higher Education Systems, participating schools receive professional development opportunities, collaboration with other institutions and a $15,000 stipend to support program implementation.
