(KNSI) —
Governor Tim Walz released his 2026 infrastructure plan on Thursday, proposing $907 million in investments for public safety, clean water, transportation, and housing.
The governor hopes to fund the work through $700 million in general obligation bonds, with the rest coming from other sources. About a third of the money would go to preserving existing infrastructure.
The priority projects include $61 million for an expansion of the Department of Corrections Rush City education program. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension intends to improve its regional office and lab in Bemidji, at a cost of $47 million.
When looked at broadly, new spending will be focused most in water and transportation projects at 19% of the overall budget. Sixteen percent is earmarked for public safety, with housing getting 11%. About $50 million is slated for affordable financing for Minnesota farmers. The remaining $52 million has been set aside for outdoor recreation and environmental jobs.
