(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University hit its fundraising goal of $200,000 for the newly created Husky Community Engagement Fund, and the timing couldn’t have been better for the university’s incoming president.
What made the push particularly dramatic was the ticking clock. An anonymous donor had pledged to match the first $100,000 in contributions, but only if supporters stepped up by December 31st. The community delivered, unlocking the full match.
Dr. Gregory Tomso arrived on campus as SCSU’s 26th president last week and announced the milestone during his convocation address. “To arrive on campus to not just a warm welcome, but an outpouring of support from the community is such a promising introduction to SCSU,” Tomso said. “I’m excited to see what our University and the greater St. Cloud area can accomplish together moving forward.”
The Husky Community Engagement Fund was started last fall and operates on a simple but powerful premise; when St. Cloud State thrives, the surrounding community benefits, and vice versa. The fund gives Tomso the flexibility to invest in community-focused programs and build crucial connections with local leaders.
