(KNSI) — James “Jay” Dingmann is running for Benton County Sheriff following the announcement that current Sheriff Troy Heck will not seek re-election.

Dingmann has spent 30 years with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office and currently serves as Senior Sergeant and SWAT Commander for the Stearns-Benton SWAT Team. He is a lifelong resident of Benton County.

“I believe the Sheriff’s Office should be prepared, proactive, and focused on real-world public safety – not politics,” Dingmann said in a statement. “This job requires steady leadership and strong preparation, along with support for the people who do the work every day.”

If elected, Dingmann says he will focus on supporting deputies and staff, staying ahead of emerging challenges, and working with community partners to keep Benton County safe.

Dingmann and his wife, Amy, have been married for 25 years and raised two sons on their Benton County hobby farm.

Heck announced he will not seek re-election this November, ending his 32-year career with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. He has served as sheriff for the past 11 years, calling it “the highlight of my law enforcement career.” His current term expires in January 2027.
