(KNSI) — A St. Cloud man is being charged in Hennepin County after prosecutors say he engaged in “political violence” stemming from an attack on a protester.
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office charged 36-year-old Zak X with fifth-degree assault for his actions at a protest at Fort Snelling on December 27th. A press release says, “Mr. X escalated a verbal confrontation with protesters by punching the victim in the head, causing the victim to fall to the ground.”
According to the criminal complaint, video surveillance showed X approaching the victim from behind, “balling his fist and delivering multiple uppercut punches to the victim in a blind-side attack. As a result of the blows, the victim falls to the ground. The victim is observed to have injuries on his face post-assault.”
Attorney Mary Moriarty said, “The defendant engaged in political violence, assaulting a protester whose views he disagreed with. This behavior has consequences, and we will hold him accountable. We are committed to protecting the right to nonviolent protest.”
X’s hearing is currently scheduled for December 31st at 1:30 p.m.
