(KNSI) – The Great River Regional Library’s 2026 winter reading challenge starts Friday, with this year’s theme embracing curling up in a cozy corner with a book and watching the flakes fly outside.
Teens and adults are encouraged to “Chill Out and Read” the first couple of months of the year. The competition, now in its 23rd year, is open to anyone in 6th grade or older. The more books a person reads, the better chance they have at prizes being drawn at all 32 branches of the GRRL system.
Readers have two choices to track their progress. Paper logs are available at the library to fill out by hand. They can also use the Beanstack app. Hitting goals will unlock online badges and other personal rewards. The app will also take what a reader likes and customize recommendations for the next engrossing page-turner.
Prizes up for grabs include special “Chill Out and Read” coffee mugs and winter hats.
