(KNSI) — The Minnesota State Patrol is counting up the crashes, spin outs, and jackknifed semis statewide since the latest winter storm started Saturday night.
According to numbers updated at 7:00 Monday morning, since midnight, December 28th, troopers were called to a total of 451 crashes. Of those, 33 were injury crashes. There were also 495 vehicles that either spun out or went off the road, and 32 jackknifed semis.
At the height of the storm, plows were pulled off the roads, and many highways and freeways were closed, including Interstate 35. No travel advisories were issued due to zero visibility. The storm system has moved off to the east, but left behind heavy snow and blowing snow, along with high wind gusts and bone chilling temperatures.
This morning, the Department of Transportation still had no travel advisories posted for all state highways in south-central and southwestern Minnesota due to drifting snow and slick roads.
