(KNSI) – The District 742 Board of Education has approved a redrawing of elementary school boundaries.

Board member Heather Weems is particularly excited about Kennedy Community School, which will house the Northside Spanish Immersion program. “The opportunities at Kennedy to do a K through eight in one location, to have the upper grades, seven and eight, mentoring or working with the kindergarten, first, second graders, where I know that it can be really frustrating and isolating a little bit because you’re sitting in a classroom where they’re talking a different language that you don’t already know.”

While Kennedy stays pre-K through 8th grade, Lincoln and Talahi are shifting to pre-K through 5th grade. The Southside Spanish Immersion Program and the Chinese Immersion Programs will remain in their current locations.

Other changes that will come about from the new boundaries will see students from St. Cloud shifted to schools either to the west or the southeast. The move is meant to balance enrollment and maximize efficiency. The plan affects about 500 kids, and goes into place at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year.

An interactive map showing who is affected is available on the district website. A link can be found here.
