(KNSI) – Officials have identified the man who shot a Stewartville High School wrestler on Friday morning before turning the rifle on himself.
Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson held a news conference on Monday morning and said the shooter was 19-year-old Logan Moyer. He was not a coach, volunteer, or aide for the team, but had wrestled for the squad in the past.
The incident happened at about 5:00 as the team was hopping on a bus to head to a meet. Torgerson said the working theory is that the shooting was not random, but he suggested the motive may never be discovered.
Moyer was about 100 yards from the bus, and he targeted a wrestler who was heading across the parking lot after weighing in for the meet. All classes at both the high school and the middle school were canceled on Friday. They resumed on Monday after a late start.
The victim is still labeled as being in critical, but stable condition at Mayo Hospital in Rochester, about 12 hours away.
