(KNSI) — The Benton County Sheriff says the human remains discovered last month have been positively identified.

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office says the remains are those of Timothy Scott Strand. According to a press release, around 9:15 p.m. on November 19th, deputies were called to a wooded area following the grim discovery in the 1500 block of East St. Germain Street in Minden Township. The area is a known homeless encampment.

Strand was last seen on May 8th, 2019, in St. Cloud. He was from Cokato and reported missing to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office in June of 2019. He was 62 at the time. In April of this year, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension received a tip saying Strand had been living in shelters around the St. Cloud area. Authorities searched every shelter, but Strand was nowhere to be found.

The cause and manner of Strand’s death have not been determined. The investigation is ongoing.
