(KNSI) – Waite Park is considering revamping leadership at the fire department in 2026.
City Council will interview a pair of firefighters for an open captain position. An announcement of who gets the job could come as soon as Monday night’s council meeting. Interviews would take place at the work session scheduled prior to the council meeting.
The 2026 budget calls for hiring a full-time fire chief. Staff have worked with consulting firm Baker Tilly to draft a job description, which the city council will review in the coming months. The hope is to finalize it by January so the hiring process can begin.
The current version of the job posting requires applicants to have five years of supervisory experience and knowledge of relevant OSHA safety regulations. It is preferred that some of that experience came at the helm of a full-time or paid-on-call department. They’re also hoping to find someone with training in emergency management.
