(KNSI) — The woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death on Monday morning has been charged.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Stearns County District Court, police were called to an apartment complex on the 1200 block of Washington Memorial Drive in St. Cloud just after 4:00 and found 25-year-old Quinton McKay Hughes, who had been stabbed in the chest. He initially survived the attack, and lifesaving measures were taken at the scene, but he was pronounced dead a short time later. A woman at the apartment, 23-year-old Katerina Markiv, told investigators she had been drinking through the night before the two started arguing. She explained she became angry because Hughes was constantly interrupting her, and started swinging a knife around. She was not aware Hughes was so close and thought she was only going to scratch him, but “something in her head got triggered” and she plunged the knife into Hughes’s chest. Markiv explained she didn’t know what happened, admitting she had anger issues and doesn’t know her own strength.
Markiv is charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
