(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning and a winter weather advisory for central Minnesota.

Forecasters say an intense band of snow will move across the region today through Wednesday morning. We will see a very tight gradient between who gets a sloppy wintery mix and who gets the heaviest snow. That line runs right along Interstate 94. Just northeast of the eventual track, an intense band of snow will develop, with snowfall rates of 1″ to 2″ inches per hour expected. The heaviest snow is expected along and north of Interstate 94, where a narrow band could drop between 4″ and 7″. Any wobble as little as 20 miles in the storm track will have a major impact on snowfall forecasts.

An area of freezing rain is possible within the transition zone of rain to snow. The area for the greatest chance of that is along and south of the I-94 corridor.

The winter storm warning includes Benton, Morrison, and Sherburne Counties and areas north.

The winter weather advisory includes Stearns and Wright Counties and areas south.

Both the warning and the advisory are in place until at least 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 10th.
