(KNSI) – Some Stearns County residents have recently received mailings containing prefilled applications for permanent absentee voting, and while the mailings are legitimate, they’re not coming from the county.
County officials want to clarify that Integrity Minnesota, an organization separate from Stearns County government, sent the mailings. However, county election staff confirmed that the applications are legal under Minnesota election law and that voters can join a permanent absentee voting list.
Those who fill out the application and file it with the county would automatically receive a ballot by mail for every election in their voting district.
County officials stress that election mail is not forwarded. So, seasonal residents (snowbirds) should be aware that ballots will be sent to their primary address and will not be forwarded to other homes.
Voters on the permanent absentee list who wish to opt out must submit a written request to the Stearns County Elections Office.
Send written requests to:
Stearns County Elections Office, 3301 County Road 138, Waite Park, MN 56387, or email the request to elections@stearnscountymn.gov
Voters with questions about the mailings or permanent absentee voting can reach the Stearns County Elections Office at 320-656-3920.
