(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Area School Board received recommendations Wednesday evening for the first comprehensive redraw of elementary boundaries in nearly three decades.

Superintendent Laurie Putnam and Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Nikki Hansen presented the proposed changes during the board’s regularly scheduled meeting. The recommendations follow months of data analysis, community input sessions, and staff consultations aimed at balancing enrollment across the district’s elementary schools.

The proposed boundary changes would take effect in the 2026-27 school year, giving the families of more than 500 affected students about nine months to prepare for potential transitions.

Key priorities driving the boundary redesign include addressing enrollment imbalances between schools, especially at the elementary level, and maximizing facility utilization.

Community members who wish to provide feedback on the proposed changes can attend future school board meetings, which begin at 6:30 p.m. at the District Administration Office, 1201 2nd Street South in Waite Park. Public comment is heard at the start of each meeting. Residents may also submit written comments directly to school board members via email.

The board will take feedback before making a final decision on December 15th.
