(KNSI) – The traditional Christmas celebration in St. Cloud, called Weihnachtsmarkt, is on hiatus.
Mayor Jake Anderson tells KNSI News the city has decided to put the festival on hold for 2025 due to the costs associated with it. Anderson stated the city will revisit it in 2026 to see if it will be back in the same form or something different.
The initial event was held in downtown in 2012 to celebrate the local area’s significant German heritage and its sister city relationship with Spalt, Germany. The market featured traditional German food and beverages, such as glühwein (hot spiced wine), bratwurst, and gingerbread (Lebkuchen), along with local arts and crafts.
In recent years, the event had been held on the third level of the River’s Edge Parking Ramp.
