(KNSI) — Students, faculty, and staff at St. John’s Prep, along with residents, helped dozens of area families in need with its annual food and fund drive for the St. Joseph Community Food Shelf.

A press release from the school says thanks to the generosity of families, this year’s food drive was an incredible success, with students in grades 6-12 collecting $3,780.58 in cash and check donations along with 951 food items. The committee was thrilled to surpass last year’s total of $1,800 by such a large margin.

Prep students contributed non-perishable items such as canned vegetables, boxes of stuffing, cans of broth and cream of mushroom soup, bottles of fruit juice, and other holiday staples. Monetary donations will help purchase turkeys, pies, buns, and other perishable items, so more than 30 families enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal.

Organizers said they are especially grateful to the National Honor Society, Advisor Maureen Frame, President Isaac Miller, and members Fran Wenner and Isabella Glomski for coordinating the effort.

St. John’s Prep has supported the St. Joe Food Shelf through this annual drive for more than 20 years.
