(KNSI) – Benton County’s law enforcement community embraced No-Shave November this year, growing out their facial hair for a cause and raising more than $500 for men’s health research.
The woolly-faced team included deputies, detention officers, and even a Foley city councilman, all of whom set aside their razors for the month-long awareness campaign. The funds raised will be donated to support cancer education, prevention, and research.
No-Shave November encourages participants to forgo grooming for the entire month and donate the money they would typically spend on shaving and haircuts to cancer charities. Beyond fundraising, the campaign also raises awareness about men’s health issues, including prostate and testicular cancer, as well as mental health.
The initiative began in 2009 when the Hill family of Illinois created a Facebook campaign to honor their father, who had passed away from colon cancer. What started as a personal tribute has grown into a nationwide movement that brings attention to cancer research and prevention every November.
This year’s Benton County participants included Deputy Wilson, Deputy Oberg, Deputy Lindgren, Detention Officer Boock, Detention Officer Turbeville, Detective George, Deputy Kosel, Foley Police Officer Anton, Sergeant Dingmann, Court Security Deputy Vickstrom, and Foley City Councilman Jeff Gondeck.
