Brutal Cold Follows First Major Snowstorm as St. Cloud Area Sees Up to 4.8 Inches

(KNSI) – The season’s first major winter storm dropped 4.8 inches of snow at the St. Cloud Regional Airport.

The National Weather Service measured the snowfall at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. Richmond saw the same amount of snow, while a ruler at the Catholic Charities Emergency Services Food Shelf in St. Cloud showed 3.5 inches of the white stuff. Clear Lake came in at 2.5 inches.

The largest totals were north of the St. Cloud metro area. Long Prairie and Little Falls were 7.2 and 7 inches, respectively. The heaviest snow fell near Cloquet and Duluth, where 9 to 9.5 inches fell.

With the winter storm clearing, brutal cold will take its place. Meteorologists are predicting the temperatures to drop over the next couple of days, with highs in the teens during the day and lows below zero on Sunday and Monday nights.
