(KNSI) – The results are in for Leighton Media’s 6th Annual Best of Local High School Sports Ballot, and Foley High School has made history with a dominating performance that showcased the power of community support.
In an unprecedented sweep, the Foley Falcons claimed six categories on Monday and took home the grand prize for most total votes, earning a combined $2,000 for their athletic programs.
The Falcons won in Best Student Section, recognizing the electric atmosphere created by their passionate fans, and Best Mascot, celebrating Foley’s brand-new logo unveiled this year. The school’s volleyball program was honored when Courtney Studenski won Best Coach, while student-athletes Porter Loehrer and Kylie Storkamp were recognized as Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete, respectively.
Foley also shared the Best Rivalry category with longtime competitor Milaca.
Each category win earned the school a $250 donation, and Foley received an additional $500 bonus for winning the most categories overall.
Milaca High School also celebrated a first-time bracket victory, sharing the Best Rivalry category with Foley.
Beyond Foley’s dominance, several other area schools took home honors in the fan-voted competition. Melrose High School earned its first-ever bracket win in the Best Venue category for its swimming pool. The school’s Activities Department expressed heartfelt gratitude for the $250 donation, which will be put towards a fund to replace their now 56-year-old pool.
Albany High School won Best State Championship Team for their Boys Basketball squad, and Cathedral High School’s hockey program took home Best Uniform.
Leighton Media’s Best of Local High School Sports celebrates what makes each school special, from spirited rivalries and dedicated coaches to outstanding athletes and the venues where memories are made.
The competition was made possible thanks to partnerships with Wruck Sewer and Portable Rentals, Scooters Coffee, Signature Auto Repair, American Door Works, St. Cloud Toyota and Leighton Media.
