(KNSI) – The Jolly Trolley is making an extra stop this year in its quest to restock area food shelves for the holidays.

Community members are encouraged to bring either cash or non-perishable food items to donate. This year’s tour of area grocery stores begins on Monday, December 15th, at Lunds and Byerlys. On the 16th, it will chug over to Coborn’s on Cooper in St. Cloud, then jet to Cash Wise in Waite Park on the 17th, and end at Coborn’s in downtown Sauk Rapids on the 18th.

The trolley takes the form of a Metro Bus, ready to be packed to the gills with boxes and cans. It will be out from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. each day.

Last year, the effort raised 9,766 pounds of food and $1,851 despite a blast of brutally cold weather. The high temperature for the middle day, December 12th, was only five degrees Fahrenheit, or 22 degrees below normal. The Jolly Trolley has been going for 16 years now.

Metro Bus CEO Ryan Daniel says, “We are so appreciative of the opportunity to serve St. Cloud, Sartell, Sauk Rapids and Waite Park, and the Jolly Trolley is an impactful way for Metro Bus and our partners to give back to our communities.”
