(KNSI) – The humble bratwurst brought home a princely sum in St. Joseph that will benefit the local volunteer fire department.
During the summer, the Saint Joseph Lions held their traditional brat sales with proceeds helping fund the purchase of new radios for the fire department. At this week’s meeting, the club presented a check for $12,386.80.
In a Facebook page on Wednesday, St. Joseph Fire and Rescue expressed gratitude to the Lions and all those who donate to improve the department’s capabilities.
The group was started in 1855 as Hook and Ladder Company 1. The name was changed in 1892 and today it has 30 members. Most of the calls the department responds to are medical emergencies. It serves the City of St. Joseph, St. Joseph Township, and the southern part of St. Wendel Township.
