(KNSI) – Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy and St. Cloud Senator Aric Putnam will make two stops in the area on Monday to meet with organizations working on youth development and food insecurity.
The lawmakers will begin their visit at 1:00 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club Southside location, where they will tour the facility and learn about the organization’s CareerSTART Initiative. It is a program designed to prepare young people for life after school.
Following the club visit, Murphy and Putnam will head to the Catholic Charities Emergency Services Food Shelf at 2:00 p.m. to meet with leaders about the growing demand for food assistance services. According to the announcement from the Senate, discussions at the food shelf will focus on how the recent federal government shutdown and cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program have increased the number of people seeking help from local food pantries.
