(KNSI) — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating after a Cass County deputy was shot and a man was killed Sunday near Walker.
According to the sheriff’s office, just after 4:30 p.m., someone called 911 to report a shooting close to some homes in a rural area outside the city. Deputies responded and tried to make contact with a man they saw nearby. He took off running, and police ran after him before shots rang out. A deputy was hit and treated at the scene. He was then airlifted to a hospital in Fargo. His condition was not released.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s not clear if he was shot by deputies. No further details have been revealed.
The BCA says body cameras were in use at the time. Everyone involved has been placed on administrative leave.
