(KNSI) – The Waite Park City Council will review the preliminary and final plat for the new Metro Bus hub at Monday’s meeting.

The proposed Western Transit Center will be set on about 5.5 acres near the intersection of 2nd Avenue South and Sundial Drive. Metro Bus is asking the city to plat it as a single parcel. While clearing, demolition, and other preliminary work have already been started, construction is forbidden until the plat gets approval.

Waite Park requires a special gesture be made when a property is platted for the first time. The Park Board is recommending a payment-in-lieu of parkland dedication of $38,730. The Stearns County Highway Department must also weigh in, as the property has frontage on a right-of-way.

The Waite Park Planning Commission reviewed the plat on November 10th, and approval has been recommended. The center is intended to better serve Sartell, the southern end of St. Cloud, and Waite Park, which are driving the majority of the metro area’s growth. It will allow for routes and schedules to be redesigned around a more localized location than the downtown St. Cloud station.

Council meets at 6:15 p.m. inside the District 742 Administration Office Building.
