(KNSI) — The Cold Spring City Council has tabled a discussion to approve the final schematic design of the government center remodel for two weeks.
There were two possibilities with the alternate plan calling for an attached six stall garage, which the council wasn’t excited about, according to Administrator Kris Dockendorf.
The group asked the project architects to come back with a scaled-down vehicle bay. Dockendorf says, “They had a discussion about just doing a two-stall attached garage, so that the police department could get their needed sallyport.”
A sallyport is a secured, enclosed, controlled entryway where officers can bring in suspects or those detained for questioning.
Dockendorf notes even with the short delay, excitement is beginning to build. The changes are most anticipated by the police department, which currently has 12 members sharing a pair of rooms. Plans for the building would see the force gain significant new capabilities. “They have evidence storage, evidence prep. They have a place to clean their guns. They have duty bag storage, DUI processing. They have a lot of areas that they did not have before that they needed.”
The public hearing on the issue was also held over for two weeks. Plans call for the police department to take up the north and west wings of the revamped building. The section closer to Red River Avenue is dedicated to city administration.
