(KNSI) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources reports that the 2025 rifle hunting deer season is off to a strong start.

Through Wednesday, 108,736 bucks and does had been bagged across the state. The most robust hunting areas are mostly within an hour of St. Cloud. With 4,331 deer killed, the most productive area is Zone 241 near Wadena and Perham. Nipping at its heels is Zone 213 around Alexandria at 4,009.

Zones 214, 215, 221, and 225 all have over 3,000 kills recorded. Those make up parts of Morrison, Mille Lacs, and Isanti Counties.

In 2024, the state notched roughly 170,000 kills throughout the entire season. The 200- and 300-series zones will see the guns die down this Sunday at sunset. The 100 series in the northeast part of the state will still be able to pack their freezers full of venison through next weekend. There remains a good chance this year’s harvest improves on what was managed last fall.
