YMCA’s 15th Annual Wishbone 5K Set to Bring Families Together on Thanksgiving Morning

(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Area Family YMCA is once again starting Thanksgiving on the right foot with its 15th annual Bernick’s Family Fitness Series Wishbone 5K.

YMCA Race Director Tim McLean told KNSI the event has grown into a beloved tradition that attracts participants from everywhere. “We get people from multiple different countries and all over the state of Minnesota, which is fantastic.”

The event, sponsored by CentraCare M Physicians Orthopedics, offers multiple race options for all ages and fitness levels. The El-Jay Plumbing Little Turkeys 1K begins at 8:00 a.m., followed by the 5K and two-mile CentraCare race at 8:15 a.m.

McLean emphasized the event is engaging for all ages. “We see many families come out and say, this is a family tradition now for us for every year, and it’s great to see it.” In a change from previous years, participants will receive beanie hats instead of t-shirts while supplies last.

YMCA facilitates four family-friendly community 5K events each year, seeing over 10,000 participants plus thousands of spectators. The mission is to help create happy, healthy families. 80% of participants register as families.
