(KNSI) – St. Cloud State University is helping students gain valuable work experience without the financial burden through a new stipend program for unpaid internships.
The SCSU Career Center, working with the university’s offices of Financial Aid and Advancement and Alumni Engagement, has awarded $1,200 stipends to seven students interning at local nonprofit organizations and other businesses that cannot afford to pay them for their time. The program drew strong interest, receiving 37 applications.
Their work ranges from event planning and advocacy to improving children’s mental health and conducting biomechanical analyses for athletes.
The selected students get hands-on experience working at organizations including the YMCA, Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center, Ellison Center, Seeds of Success, Greater Minnesota Family Center, Central Minnesota Child Advocacy Center, and the U.S. Professional Diving Coaches Association.
