(KNSI) – Severe drought has returned to Minnesota for the first time since summer.

About 2.4% of the state is in the second stage of drought (out of four) in this week’s report from the United States Drought Monitor. The patch is centered around the Duluth area, taking up the southern tip of St. Louis County, most of Carlton County and the northern half of Pine County. Moderate drought is present from Becker County all the way to the North Shore.

The drought situation in central Minnesota is mostly unchanged in recent weeks. The northeastern corner of Stearns County, from St. Cloud through Sartell and Le Sauk Township and finally into Brockway Township, is abnormally dry. The same goes for all of Benton County and 98% of Sherburne County.

The next report will be released on Thursday, November 13th.
