(KNSI) — Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport is among the 40 that will face a reduction in air traffic due to the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced the move on Wednesday to take pressure off air traffic controllers who are being forced to work without pay. With callouts from workers across the country, the system has been put under major stress. FAA Administrator Byran Bedford said the agency would not wait for a crisis to act.
Other affected airports include Anchorage, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York, SeaTac, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco.
The slowdown will begin Friday with a 4% reduction, rising to 10% by early next week.
