(KNSI) – St. Cloud Area School District 742 will pick a name for its new indoor athletic complex coming to the Apollo High School campus.Voters approved the $15 million multipurpose facility in April. It will be used for soccer, softball, lacrosse and practices for baseball, football and golf. It will also house batting cages and golf simulators.

The committee has narrowed the possibilities to three names and provided reasons for their selection.

They are Apex Athletics Complex, APEX 742 Athletic Training Facility and ACT Athletic Center.

The word APEX reflects the building’s height and the goal of reaching the peak of athletic training and achievement. The board says the name inspires students to strive for their highest potential while positioning the facility as a premier location for sports and training.

The APEX 742 Athletic Training Facility name builds on the APEX theme while incorporating 742, connecting the facility directly to our school district. It symbolizes district pride, unity and the goal of all students reaching the pinnacle of athletic development.

The ACT Athletic Center uses an acronym bringing together Apollo, Crush and Tech and ties the school communities together by using the first letter from each to create the name. Crush is the name of the district’s teams, composed of students from both high schools.

The board will discuss the name on Wednesday night and can pick one if they’re ready. The meeting gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at the 742 District Administrative Office in Waite Park.
